<p>Aside from covetable housing, the area’s other major highlight are its many exceptional eateries. Our favourite restaurant is <a href="https://www.towpathlondon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Towpath</a>, serving seasonal food in a magical canalside setting it’s loved by locals. When you crave carbs and want to load up on Neapolitan-style pizza it’s time to hit up <a href="https://sweetthursday.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sweet Thursday</a>, an Italian food and wine shopping in the heart of De Beauvoir. &nbsp;</p>



<p><a href="https://www.debeauvoirarms.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">De Beauvoir Arms</a> will quickly become your local, a Victorian pub with Mediterranean-inspired dishes like  Italian sausage, plenty and tomato stew written on chalkboard menus and devoured at the long wooden tables. When the sun shines, Scolt’s Head has a beautiful garden to linger in over a chilled sauv blanc, lager… insert your fave tipple here.&nbsp;</p>



<p>For sushi and sashimi and perhaps a late night boogie on a Friday, <a href="https://brilliantcornerslondon.co.uk/drinks-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brilliant Corners</a>. The best fish and chips in London? <a href="https://www.suttonandsons.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sutton &amp; Sons</a> on Essex Road, where you can takeout or eat the hand-cut chips and fresh fish on the benches outside. When it’s time to catch up with friends over a bottle of natural, nothing added wine and tasty bites, <a href="https://www.goodbyehorses.london/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Goodbye Horses</a> wine bar on leafy Elizabeth Avenue is choice spot.</p>

<p>De Beauvoir doesn’t really have a traditional high street lined with chain stores, which is exactly why residents love it. Instead you’ll find one-off places like <a href="https://thedebeauvoirdeli.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">De Beauvoir Deli</a> where you can splash you cash on grocery shopping then treat yourself to a coffee and bagel (it’s also great for picnics and gift hampers). The <a href="https://www.kingslandshopping.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dusty Knuckle</a> is a community bakery where you can pick up artisanal bread and <a href="https://turnshop.co.uk/">Turn</a> is your go-to for one-off homewares, textiles, art and jewellery. North Londoners flock to the award-winning <a href="https://n1gardencentre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">N1 Garden Centre</a> to pick up their succulents, potted house plants and generally linger in the lush, urban Kew Garden vibe. And the <a href="https://www.kingslandshopping.com/">Kingsland Shopping Centre</a> in nearby Dalston has you covered for things like supermarkets and err, JD Sports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Get your pulse rate up in the basement of the Rose Lipman Building where you’ll find <a href="https://saluslondon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Salus</a>, a funky fitness studio with group and personal training sessions. <a href="https://www.islington.gov.uk/physical-activity-parks-and-trees/parks-and-green-space/your-local-parks/rosemary-gardens" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rosemary Gardens</a> has a large meadow, free outdoor gym, astro footie pitches and tennis courts you can hire. Further east in Haggerston <a href="https://momentum-training.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Momentum</a> has loads of classes to get your heart rate up, including Crossfit.&nbsp;</p>



<p>This is Central London, so there’s aren’t exactly acres of moorland on your doorstep for windswept walks, obvs. When you do want to stretch your legs, however, the Regent’s Canal towpath to Camden Lock in the west and Victoria Park in the East is a pleasant stroll. When you’re craving green space De Beauvoir Square delivers a boost of nature, with its lawn, play area and flower beds, and there&#8217;s acres of space and walks to be found east in nearby Highbury Fields and vast Victoria Park.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It’s thriving. The <a href="https://www.debeauvoir.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">De Beauvoir Association</a> runs a weekly newsletter for residents and two community events a year, Party in the Park in De Beauvoir Square and Christmas Fair, which takes place in the crypt of St Peter De Beauvoir church. <a href="https://debeauvoirgardeners.org/rainbow-park/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The De Beauvoir Gardeners</a> is a great group helping regenerate the area including Rainbow Park community garden, and <a href="https://www.debeauvoirblock.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">De Beauvoir Block</a> is a large, central members&#8217; club for creatives to meet, with co-working spaces and onsite cafe. &nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-nearby-attractions">NEARBY ATTRACTIONS </h2>



<p>Islington&#8217;s myriad entertainments are on your doorstep, Upper Street in particular has more restaurants, bars and cafés than you can shake a croissant at. Out East you&#8217;ve got the nightlife of Dalston and Hackney, while Sunday mornings can be spent browsing blooms and eating bagels in Bethnal Green&#8217;s flower market. A walk South delivers you to right into the heart of London, via the Barbican. </p>

<p>Stunning, light-filled <a href="https://www.skandihus.co.uk/classes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Skandihus Pottery Studio</a> in the heart of De Beauvoir is one of the best places in London for throwing clay, with regular courses and drop-ins and workshops to join. <a href="https://islingtonassemblyhall.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Museum of the Home</a> on Kingsland Road is a fascinating&nbsp; place to visit, with exhibits spanning what the idea of home is over the last 400 years, plus what it could look like in the future. Close by is <a href="https://www.victoria-miro.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Victoria Miro Gallery</a> showing works from rising talents in a converted Victorian furniture factory.&nbsp;For comedy, live music and theatre, <a href="https://islingtonassemblyhall.co.uk">Islington Assembly Halls</a> is on your doorstep. </p>

<p>De Beauvoir was made a conservation area in 1969. And if you’re wondering about the fancy area name, it comes from Peter De Beauvoir who was a wealthy London landowner in the 19th Century.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE </h2>



<p>There&#8217;s no tube or overland station within the De Beauvoir border, however it&#8217;s only a short walk to Dalston Junction and Haggerton overground stations. Angel Underground station in neighbouring Islington is on the Northern Line, while Essex Road station is part of the National Rail network. Hop on a 38 or 73 bus and you can be in Oxford Street or Victoria in less than half an hour (depending on traffic).</p>
