<p>Tucked away in a curve of the River Thames in South East London, Greenwich is undoubtedly one of the city&#8217;s best boroughs to live in. Let&#8217;s start with the incredible park which sweeps all the way up hill to Blackheath, then there are the world-class museums, famous market, O2 centre for music and events, legendary pubs and a huge variety of housing from period family homes to flats in futuristic high-rises on the Greenwich Peninsula, and it&#8217;s landmarks have appeared in more films and TV series than you can shake a remote control at – from <em>One Day</em> and <em>Bridgerton</em> to <em>The Dark Knight Rises</em>. </p>

<p>One of Muddy&#8217;s favourite riverside pubs in London is the <a href="https://www.trafalgartavern.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trafalgar Tavern</a>, which serves comfort food like plant burgers and fish and chips in an atmospheric setting. <a href="https://admiralhardygreenwich.co.uk/menus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Admiral Hardy</a>, close to Greenwich Park, is another great spot for superior pub grub like roasted salmon Salad Nicoise and serves a cracking Sunday lunch. <a href="https://www.davywine.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Davy&#8217;s Wine Vaults</a> in the heart of Greenwich is loved by locals and the place to go for a celebration (it has two private rooms for parties) or catch up with friends: book a table on the terrace, order the king prawns, crab, chilli linguine and a bottle of plonk from the well curated menu and settle in. </p>



<p>For fine dining with a view head to award-winning <a href="https://iclondon-theo2.com/dining/kinaara-london" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kinaara</a> on Greenwich Peninsula, an upmarket Indian with city skyline vistas and a grilled chicken with roasted almond gravy that will make you want to sell up and move pronto. Greenwich Market&#8217;s the place to head for street food, think Korean and Dim Sum, and there are cafés at every turn – we rate <a href="https://rivergardenscafe.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">River Gardens Café</a> for a slice of cake and decent coffee beside the sparkling water. </p>

<p>You can&#8217;t beat trawling the stalls of <a href="https://greenwichmarket.london" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Greenwich Market</a>, open daily from 10am-5,30pm, where traders have been gathering there since the 14th Century and you can pick up anything from antiques to books, plants and jewellery. For gifts hit up <a href="https://www.madeingreenwich.shop" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Made in Greenwich</a> which sells the work of hundreds of local producers and makers in the borough and is run by volunteers. </p>

<p>If walks are more your vibe, Greenwich Park is magnificent. One of London&#8217;s eight royal parks, it dates back to 1433 and covers 180 acres. Pack a picnic and spend the day exploring <a href="https://www.royalparks.org.uk/visit/parks/greenwich-park/queens-orchard" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Queen&#8217;s Orchard</a>, taking a row around the boating lake, spotting deer and climbing the hill to the Observatory for one of the best views of London in the capital. You can also walk <a href="https://www.visitgreenwich.org.uk/things-to-do/the-line-p1373411" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Line</a>, a cool public art trail that links the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the O2. Plenty of waterside walks to be had too. Muddy loves the <a href="https://www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/parking-transport-and-streets/travel-foot-bike-or-public-transport/check-status-foot-tunnels-and" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Greenwich Foot Tunnel</a> – there&#8217;s something thrilling about walking beneath the River Thames then strolling to Island Gardens on the North bank of the river to see the famous &#8220;Canaletto view&#8221; of Greenwich.</p>

<p>There are loads of events and activities to make you feel part of the borough&#8217;s burgeoning community. <a href="https://friendsofgreenwichpark.org.uk/Events/Coming-Events/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Friends of Greenwich Park</a> have a constantly rolling roster of events, such as family nature days and talks on the park&#8217;s wildflowers, while <a href="https://festival.org/gdif-2025/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Greenwich + Woolwich International Festival 2025</a> is a free local community event with a brilliant programme of theatre, circus and dance. </p>

<p>Blackheath&#8217;s just up the hill, with its pretty high street lined with indie shops like <a href="https://www.blackheathflowerco.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Blackheath Flower Co</a>, and gorgeous gastro pubs – a walk from Greenwich to Blackheath for a slap up Sunday roast at the <a href="https://www.princessofwalespub.co.uk/#/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Princess of Wales</a> on the edge of the heath is a favourite weekend activity. Canary Wharf&#8217;s shiny shops and restaurants are a tube stop away and nearby Woolwich boasts the Royal Arsenal  development with its plethora of hot dining spots, like Bao Bun Bar and SALT Woolwich. </p>

<p>So. Much. Culture. For starters this is where actual Greenwich Mean Time was invented, which you can find out all about at the world-famous <a href="https://www.startpage.com/sp/search" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Royal Observatory</a> in Greenwich Park, also home to the <a href="https://www.rmg.co.uk/national-maritime-museum" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">National Maritime Museum</a> and <a href="https://www.rmg.co.uk/queens-house" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Queen&#8217;s House</a> – designed by Inigo Jones between 1616-1635 it&#8217;s England’s first classical building. When later architects (especially Christopher Wren) designed the buildings around it (for the Royal Hospital / Old Royal Naval College), they had to preserve its view of the River Thames, which led to a deliberate design “gap” (a vista) so the Thames view was not blocked. </p>



<p>Down on the river front you&#8217;ll find the <a href="https://cuttysark.tickete.co/experience/cutty-sark-greenwich-e1198/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cutty Sark</a>, a glorious clipper boat from the 1800s which you can board and discover a 150 years of maritime history. World-famous artists like Little Simz and Lewis Capaldi perform at the <a href="https://www.theo2.co.uk/events" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">O2</a> and for off-West End plays and comedy there&#8217;s <a href="https://greenwichtheatre.org.uk">Greenwich Theatre</a>. </p>

Got an outdoorsy tot on your hands? Enrol them in Ofsted Outstanding <a href="https://www.thewoodlandnursery.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Woodland Nursery</a>, a Forest School-focused place for ages 2-5 yrs which does what it says on the tin.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools-nbsp">SCHOOLS&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Plenty to pique your educational interest South East. State-wise <a href="https://www.cardwellschool.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cardwell Primary School&#8217;s </a>Outstanding, so&#8217;s <a href="https://www.heronsgate.greenwich.sch.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heronsgate Primary School </a> and for older years (11-18 yrs) <a href="https://www.harrisgreenwich.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harris Academy Greenwich</a> is superb with a thriving sixth form ditto <a href="https://www.charternorthdulwich.org.uk">Charter Sc</a><a href="https://www.charternorthdulwich.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">h</a><a href="https://www.charternorthdulwich.org.uk">ool</a> in North Dulwich. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret-nbsp">BEST KEPT SECRET&nbsp;</h2>



<p>The Observatory’s “time ball” drops every day at precisely&nbsp;1pm&nbsp;(13:00). The mechanism is visible from a distance and was originally used to help ships on the Thames synchronise their clocks. It started in 1833.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute-nbsp">COMMUTE&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Hop on the Jubilee Line at North Greenwich ad you can be in  Bond Street 20 mins later. Catch the DLR at Cutty Sark and be in Canary Wharf in minutes, and there&#8217;s also the Thameslink which can take you all the way west to Wimbledon.  Best of all though is <a href="https://www.thamesclippers.com/plan-your-journey/route-map" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Uber Boat by Thames Clippers</a> meaning you can travel up and down  the river from Barking to Putney via Embankment. What a scenic way to commute. </p>
