<p>Muddy&#8217;s already tracked down London&#8217;s best pubs for <a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/sunday-roast-dinners/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sunday roasts</a>, but now it&#8217;s winter we&#8217;ve turned our attention to the cosiest pubs in town. We&#8217;re talking roaring fires to curl up by, mulled wine, lots of comfy seating and plenty of carbs on the menu. Here are our favourite spots for wintering. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-crooked-billet-wimbledon"><a href="https://www.thecrookedbilletwimbledon.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">THE CROOKED BILLET</a>, Wimbledon </h2>

<p>There&#8217;s cosy, and then there&#8217;s The Crooked Billet. It prides itself on being a &#8216;country pub in the heart of Wimbledon&#8217;, but Muddy thinks it&#8217;s nudging ski chalet territory, what with the abundance of wood, roaring fire and carb-laden menu, think Sirloin steak with hand cut chips. And did we mention they serve mulled wine throughout winter? </p>

<p>One of Muddy&#8217;s all time favourite London pubs is particularly enchanting in winter. Tucked away off the heath, its roaring fires, lamp-lit cosy nooks, wooden booths and high-ceilinged dining room make it feel like stepping into another era, though the menu featuring dishes like pan roasted hake with coastal greens and farm burger with bacon and honey chutney is throughly modern. </p>

<p>A King&#8217;s Road favourite which reopened its doors in 2021 after a mega refurb, which has restored it to its glory days. There are open fires, club chairs and a menu that includes beer battered fish and chips, mussels in cider and roast chicken supreme. This is where we intend to end up after Christmas shopping. </p>

<p> A proper local boozer, with bags of charm, regular clientele and real fires to add to the cosy atmosphere. You&#8217;d expect a trad Brit food offering in this setting, which is why the Thai-inspired lunch and dinner menu is such a surprise &#8211; the delicious Pad Thai and coconut rice noodle soup will warm you up in no time. </p>

<p>A Georgian gem at the heart of the community, this lovely pub off Upper Street feels like it was made for lazy Sundays spent reading a book by the fire, ordering a roast dinner and gazing out of the pretty French windows into the country-style walled garden beyond. </p>

<p>When you think cosy London pub, The Wrestlers is probably what you had in mind. Dating back to 1547, its crackling log fires, wood-panelled walls and floor lamps create a fabulous atmosphere in winter &#8211; order the wild boar and apple sausages with mash and settle in for the afternoon. </p>

<p>A West London must-visit this season, Muddy loves everything about this gastro pub, from the open fires, rugs and armchairs to the beautiful dining spaces, conservatory and menu featuring winter warmers like chilli cheese toastie and a Highland wagyu hound dog. Particularly ravishing at Christmas. </p>

<p>What could be better than a riverside stroll in leafy Barnes followed by a hearty dinner beside a roaring fire in the Boathouse Dining Room at The Bridge? There&#8217;s always something on at this friendly local, from quiz nights to fine wine tasting, and there are even some bedrooms if you want to make a weekend of it. </p>

<p>Wine, dine and get toasty by the fireside at this Grade II-listed riverside pub in E14. With a menu that&#8217;s as tempting as the setting (think butter poached chicken and roasted stone bass with Bordelaise sauce), Muddy recommends it for a weekend pit stop mid-walk. </p>

<p>If you&#8217;re craving a taste of the countryside but can&#8217;t make it out of the city, Fulham&#8217;s favourite boozer is your best bet. Wood tables, Sunday roasts, a dartboard, THREE fireplaces, steak and ale pie on the menu and four-legged friends welcome, all it lacks is Jeremy Clarkson propping up the bar in muddy stilettos, ok wellies. </p>
