This charming riverside restaurant serves exceptionally fine seafood in a scenic setting and, in case you&#8217;re wondering, yes it is an outpost of legendary Scott&#8217;s Mayfair. Not only does it serve up exquisite seasonal dishes bursting with flavour, but they&#8217;re also a bargain &#8211; think Roasted French free-range chicken supreme Espelette pepper, Aioli, lemon, soft green herbs and French fries for £20. We&#8217;d happily travel to the end of the Central Line in Essex for Wildwood&#8217;s new Tuscan Seafood Casserole: seabass, tiger prawns, mussels, squid, potatoes, olives, onion, tomato, white wine, chilli, capers and grilled sourdough. This laidback eatery on Epping High Street is exactly where you want to head when you need a carb-boost (risotto, linguine, calzone &#8211; we&#8217;ll take all three) and is an ideal place to meet up with friends &#8211; order the Tuscan lemon custard tart with ice cream and a couple of spoons to share and roll home happy.

It&#8217;s a loooooong way out of London, but that&#8217;s no bad thing when you can spend the journey dreaming about delicious, seasonal (clue&#8217;s in the name) fancy fare that&#8217;s recommended in the Michelin Guide. You can choose two courses for £47, think English asparagus, walnuts, goats curd and duck egg yolk&nbsp;followed by poussin katsu, black garlic, carosello cucumber and pickled magnolia and perhaps a side of roasted hispi cabbage and salsa verde. Check out the one-off suppers and events, which are gourmet all the way.

Recently opened and serving up the kind of comforting, no-brainer dishes we crave on a Friday evening after a long week at work &#8211; think pan fried sea bass, king prawns with skinny fries and filet steak with peppercorn sauce. A decent wine list, close proximity to High Barnet tube station and excellent dessert menu (go for the Judges sticky toffee with salted caramel ice cream) make this a must-visit. The Sunday lunch menu is strong too.
