Ready to fall down a rabbit hole of glorious, globe-trotting flavour?&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fourseasons.com/london/dining/restaurants/battuta/">Battuta</a>, the limited-edition summer pop-up from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fourseasons.com/london/dining/restaurants/battuta/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pavyllon London</a>&nbsp;(the Four Seasons’ Michelin-starred jewel just off Park Lane), is the kind of dining experience that’ll have you Googling flights to Marrakech by dessert.

Dreamed up by&nbsp;Chef Yannick Alléno&nbsp;– he of&nbsp;17 Michelin stars&nbsp;and more culinary accolades than you can shake a sabayon at – Battuta is inspired by 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta’s legendary travels across North Africa, the Middle East and beyond. It’s a sensory holiday on a plate, rooted in traditional gastronomy but transformed by Alléno’s wild creativity, cutting-edge techniques and just the right dash of culinary wizardry. (Think cryoconcentration and sauce extraction – yes, really – used like a perfumier balances fragrance.)



Pavyllon is Alléno’s most relaxed concept to date – albeit still with five-star service and the kind of food that makes you want to weep a little. And Battuta is its most playful incarnation – albeit for 12 weeks only. Lucky London.

Lush, romantic, and chic as hell. Tucked away on the terrace behind the hotel,&nbsp;Battuta&nbsp;feels like a well-kept secret – all twinkling lights, trailing foliage, and soft music drifting through the trees. It’s giving serious&nbsp;Casablanca&nbsp;energy – if Bogart sipped Negronis and had a thing for tiger prawns. Polished but never pretentious, it’s very much a ‘just one cocktail&#8230; then stay for dessert’ kind of place.



If the weather isn’t behaving, there’s indoor seating too – sleek and stylish with that smart hotel gloss, though it doesn’t quite conjure the same escapist magic as the terrace. Still, a solid backup plan when British summer does its thing.

Let’s start with the&nbsp;prawn toast, shall we? This is&nbsp;not&nbsp;the soggy, greasy triangle you get from your local takeaway. Oh no. This is&nbsp;next-level, blow-your-mind, eat-in-slow-motion&nbsp;prawn toast – crisp, light, impossibly flavourful and topped with what can only be described as culinary sorcery. After one bite, we briefly considered ordering four more and cancelling the rest of the meal. It makes the usual stuff look like cat food.

Next up:&nbsp;Paracha bread&nbsp;with a carousel of dips – each one punchy, creamy, smoky or spicy in turn (no two the same, all delicious),&nbsp;chicken shawarma bao&nbsp;(sweet and spiced with a pillowy bun you could nap in), and&nbsp;chicken and wagyu dumplings&nbsp;– rich, meaty mouthfuls with delicate skin and deep flavour. Small plates with serious personality.

Mains? We shared the&nbsp;Australian Wagyu striploin (250g)&nbsp;– buttery soft, perfectly pink, utterly dreamy – and&nbsp;tiger prawns in red chermoula sauce, which arrived sizzling with black garlic, zingy parsley and a faint whisper of smoke. The&nbsp;long-grain basmati rice&nbsp;and&nbsp;stir-fried veg&nbsp;were not mere sidekicks either – more like scene-stealing supporting cast.

And desserts? Good luck choosing. The&nbsp;sticky samosa&nbsp;with mango and coriander compote and black sesame paste is sweet, sharp, nutty and lightly crisp. Meanwhile, the&nbsp;compressed peach in vanilla and jasmine espuma with peach sorbet&nbsp;(a new addition to the menu) is so pretty, with flavours that scream of summer, you’ll hesitate to ruin it… before devouring the whole thing in a happy, silent haze.



The wine list is excellent, with something for every budget – and the Greco di Tufo Cantina Vadiaperti was a summer white that I could sip all night (and did). The chefs are knocking it out of the park, but shout out to front of house. The team are amazing – friendly, attentive (without being annoying) and very well informed. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-child-friendly">CHILD FRIENDLY</h2>



There are highchairs. But unless your child enjoys chilled tunes, saffron, and philosophical debates about peach sorbet, book the babysitter and keep this one grown-up.

Fully accessible via the hotel lobby, with slick, intuitive service from the moment you arrive. No faff, no fuss.

You&#8217;re in the golden triangle of swanky London sightseeing – so make a day of it. Hyde Park&nbsp;is on the doorstep so you are minutes away from walking off that baklava ice cream. Take a whirl around The Serpentine Galleries&nbsp;(they’re free and fabulous). Arpita Singh and Guiseppe Penone both have exhibitions on at the moment. If you&#8217;re in the mood to do some damage to your bank balance, Mount Street,&nbsp;Shepherd Market, and&nbsp;Bond Street&nbsp;are all within tottering distance.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



Battuta is sexy, clever, and the kind of meal you’ll bang on about to anyone who’ll listen. The setting’s a stunner, the service is five-star without the snoot, and the food… well. If you only eat one prawn toast this summer,&nbsp;make it this one. Chef Alléno’s taken the comfort food you know and spun it into something magical, fragrant and impossibly moreish. Go soon – it won’t be around forever.



GOOD FOR: Date nights, girls&#8217; dinners, celebratory lunches, spice fiends, dedicated followers of Michelin stars and anyone in need of a mental holiday. 



NOT FOR: Fussy eaters. This is not a plain burger and a pint of lager kind place. Save that for the pub.



THE DAMAGE: Small plates £10–£18; mains from £24; cocktails £16. Expect a spendy bill and zero regrets.
