Around the corner from foodie magnet Borough Market, eight minutes from London Bridge and a scenic stroll across Southwark Bridge to reach Cannon Street station. In short, it&#8217;s central and easy to access from North, South, East and West London, yet still feels in-the-know. Strong start.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Muddy went to review the food and wasn’t expecting to step into a Mykonos-style beach club in Borough. Flaming torches at the entrance gives it a rather exclusive air, while the expansive open-air terrace with DJ booth, al fresco seating, pergola-covered areas, olive trees and wicker lanterns feels more Ibiza than Southwark. Stylish yet relaxed, it&#8217;s definitely somewhere we&#8217;d like to return to sip a cocktail and catch up with friends.&nbsp;

Pyro&#8217;s the dream of Greek-born chef <a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/chef-yiannis-mexis-pyro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yiannis Mexis</a> whose star has long been in the ascent &#8211; he’s worked at some of the best Michelin-starred kitchens around the city including <a href="https://www.elystanstreet.com/phil-howard/">Elystan Street</a>,<a href="https://www.theledbury.com/"> The Ledbury</a> and <a href="https://hide.co.uk/">HIDE</a>. Now he’s launched his own restaurant, serving modern Greek cuisine cooked over an open fire in a setting that resembles a trendy taverna, including rustic tables, pergola roof and tiled floor. It’s big, noisy and you want to linger.&nbsp;



Our super friendly server Nephthalie got the tasting party started with a Midas, one of the restaurant’s signature cocktails which is a heady mix of warm spices and fruits (I later discovered it’s made with cinnamon-infused tequila, Aperol and spicy apricot, so little wonder it hit the spot after a long day at work). My friend Nicki and I shared sips and chatted about the menu, split into Breads and Crudités, Dips, Grazing, Crudo and From the Fire and one of the most enticing I&#8217;ve seen for ages.

Market crudités with leafy tops served on a bowl of ice looked like they could have just been pulled out of the ground, which their crunch and freshness confirmed, while plump, dense potato pitas worked well dunked in delicious dips of smoked aubergine with roasted garlic and tzatziki with black olive oil.&nbsp;

Appearing in no particular order, mussel saganaki on toasted bread and vine leaf served on a bed of mussel shells, spanakopita, succulent souvlaki skewers cooked over embers and, my highlight, a sea bream crudo served in the body of a whole fish. If you get squeamish about fish heads, this isn’t the dish for you, but if you like fresh seafood that evokes memories of al fresco lunches by the sparkling Med, it doesn’t come much better.&nbsp;

On to the main event: From the Fire, where Dorset lamb cooked over wood, accompanied by lamb flatbreads, smoked anchovy yoghurt and a pea salad was the showstopper. Perfectly pink and oozing with juices and silky fats, this was next level delicious and I would have eaten the contents of the entire board if it weren’t for the barbecued octopus and asparagus also on the table, both first-rate.&nbsp;



It was a feast. Portions were generous and uplifting, with sides as tempting as the mains (think lettuce with pomegranate and feta dressing). Just when we thought things couldn’t get any better (tastier) a dessert of Greek coffee and chocolate with a sesame seed topping appeared in a small bronze pot. It looked innocent enough, but when our spoons cut through the crunchy topping and stirred around the rich ingredients, the effect was a party in the mouth. I’m not even a fan of coffee, but there&#8217;s only a faint hint of bean and this creamy confection is a must-order. 



It was good to see Greek wine represented on the drinks menu (my previous experience was limited to retsina), including a Skouras Cuvee Prestige Rose alongside the usual Italian Pinot Grigios and French Chablis. 



A surprise at the end of the night was the offer to take a doggy bag home. We accepted, and in minutes leftover lamb and crispy potato had been packed away in brown boxes, brought to the table and was joyfully eaten for lunch the next day. If only all high end London restaurants were this thoughtful and efficient we could halve food waste.&nbsp;



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict-nbsp">THE MUDDY VERDICT&nbsp;</h2>

Contemporary Greek food served in a place with beautiful beach club vibes? Errr, yes please! We can’t actually find anything to fault here, which is rare &#8211; even the prices aren’t as eye-watering as you’d expect for a hot new restaurant with Michelin aspirations. The only thing we&#8217;d have added would be a side of warm sunset, however that might have been dangerous as we&#8217;d no doubt have stayed longer at the outside bar and indulged in more cocktails &#8211; bad for the wallet and work the next day.&nbsp;



Good for: If you love Mediterranean food and expertly mixed cocktails served in surroundings made for good times, you’re going to want to book a table asap.&nbsp;



Not for: If your idea of a fancy restaurant is white table cloths, silver service and a snooty waiter, give it a swerve. &nbsp;



The damage:&nbsp;Potato pita, £3.50; crudités, £10; smoked aubergine dip, £6; Tzatziki, £6; mussel saganaki, £8; souvlaki skewer £8; sea bream crudo, £22; octopus, £26; Dorset lamb, £70; Midas cocktail, £12; glass of wine, £8. That’s £85pp, though we could have ordered half this and been satisfied.&nbsp;
