<p>HG, or Honest Greens as it&#8217;s known in Europe, already has a loyal following at its Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia restaurants, with customers frequently raving on Tripadvisor about its healthy dishes: &#8220;Best food ever, healthy, colourful, delicious, great vibe and very good prices.&#8221; Spurred on by Dry Jan and a New Year healthy eating plan, Muddy went along a few weeks after its December opening to see if it lived up to the gushing reviews. </p>

<p>Tucked away in St Anne&#8217;s Court, a passageway linking Dean and Wardour streets, HG&#8217;s in the heart of Soho yet its location makes it feel a bit in-the-know. Oxford Circus tube station&#8217;s a ten-minute walk away, and it&#8217;s close to Carnaby Street and Liberty department store, which makes it an ideal place for a refuel mid-shop. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-the-vibe">WHAT&#8217;S THE VIBE</h2>

<p>Earthy urban. Mud-coloured walls and rattan lampshades, hanging plants above communal wood tables with cream seats, tiled floors and louder than expected music (though don&#8217;t worry, you can still hold a conversation). HG&#8217;s attracting a varied crowd judging by the people we saw on a random Monday lunchtime &#8211; a group of mums enjoying coffee and catch up while their babies slept in pushchairs, couples cosying up together in corners, solo diners scrolling, a gang of students crammed around a large table downstairs and some mum-and-daughter-day-out combos &#8211; we even saw an influencer capturing it all. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF </h2>

<p>If the words salad bowl, nut butter and proteins bring you joy, you&#8217;re going to love HG. You can walk in (no booking necessary), queue and order your food, or save time and order online via the HG app, which allows you skip the queue by using a QR code at the speed lane, then all you have to do is sit and wait for the food to be delivered to your table. Muddy did the latter and found it really convenient. </p>

<p>Food-wise it&#8217;s a dream if you&#8217;re into healthy, non-processed cuisine. Among the rainbow of stand-out dishes are the Latin Lover (brown rice, beans, kale, coriander, cabbage, corn, onion, avocado, cucumber, chilli flakes and japaleno) and Avocado Supergreen &#8211; mixed greens, basil, parsley, beetroot, apple, celery, tomatoes, mushrooms, carrot *deep breath* pumpkin, bean sprouts, alfalfa, pistachio and poppy seeds. Forget five-a-day, at HG Soho you&#8217;ll be close to your 30-a-week goal in one sitting. </p>

<p>Muddy added a side of miso salmon to the Avocado Supergreen salad for protein and it was a really decent portion with a taste to rival that of far posher restaurants. HG Soho isn&#8217;t vegetarian &#8211; in fact one of its top sellers is Charcoal-Grilled Steak using sustainable, British beef &#8211; however plant-based dishes are refreshingly front and centre. </p>



<p>If you&#8217;re popping in for a snack, you won&#8217;t be disappointed, with bites like sweet potato fries with beet ketchup and alioli and baked feta with romesco sauce, cherry tomatoes and black olive tapenade on the menu. Nor is it too worthy to offer something sweet, though even the desserts are healthy-ish, like marbled chocolate and tahini cake made with raspberries and gluten-free flour. Our tip is the delicious miso koji apple pie created from cacao, dates, walnuts, buckwheat, cashew, banana and coconut milk. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT </h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Healthy, convenient, good-looking food. Honest Greens is already a hit in Europe and it&#8217;s going to be a hot spot in London too. Also great for  anyone on a budget this Jan &#8211; we found the substantial salads a bargain for central London at £9.95, however the drinks were expensive in comparison &#8211; a small cold pressed juice in a bottle for £6.45? We&#8217;ll have tap water, thanks. It&#8217;s not only the food that&#8217;s so appealing here, it&#8217;s also the ethos behind it &#8211; seasonal, sustainable food that&#8217;s good for body and soul is zeitgeist and we love it. </p>



<p><strong>Not for: </strong>If you like silver service, meat-based menus and table bookings, walk on by.  </p>
