<p>Weeks into the summer holidays, with the kids’ screen time creeping up by the day and everyone needing to get out of the house, Muddy decided to book a family visit to <em><a href="https://jurassicworldexperience.com/uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jurassic World: The Experience</a></em>. Recently opened to coincide with the launch of latest movie <em>Jurassic World: Rebirth</em>, which hit cinemas in July, we took along two ten-year-old <em>Jurassic Park</em> fans who were <em>very</em> keen to see the animatronics in action and visit the laboratory, where you can do everything from handle dino poo to pet a baby dinosaur. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-where-s-the-dino-action-taking-place">WHERE&#8217;S THE DINO ACTION TAKING PLACE?</h2>

<p><em>Jurassic World: The Experience</em> lies in NEON, a boxy warehouse in the shadow of the power station. Emerging out of the Battersea Park tube station is always a thrill. This regenerated part of town feels a bit like stepping into an architect&#8217;s drawing, with modern glass-fronted flats, landscaped parks and, of course, the dramatic towers of Battersea Power Station, filled with shops, restaurants and <a href="https://artotellondonbattersea.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">art&#8217;hotel London Battersea</a>, home to London&#8217;s most scenic swimming pool. But enough about that. </p>



<p>NEON it&#8217;s pretty underwhelming to look at. We&#8217;d booked 2.30pm tickets and there was a slight queue outside (around 25 people), but this shifted in minutes when the doors opened at the allocated time. Inside was lined with black curtains and dinosaur posters and, after a quick bag search, we were queuing again to access the &#8216;boat&#8217; to reach Isla Nublar &#8211; only this time there was a ranger full of dino facts and jokes to keep us entertained. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-so-when-do-i-get-to-see-a-dinosaur">SO WHEN DO I GET TO SEE A DINOSAUR? </h2>

<p>The moment you step off the &#8216;ferry&#8217; (a room full of benches and bouys) you land at the dramatic entrance gates to Jurassic World which open to reveal Zone 1 (there are five zones), Gentle Giants. The first thing we saw was a towering brachiosaurus set against a tropical island backdrop with a neck so long the boys were awed by the sheer scale of it. They also loved the binoculars which allowed them to sweep the landscape in search of more dinos and discover facts about them on screen. </p>

<p>A triceratops and her baby caused a distraction before the boys raced into the next room and discovered a really realistic ankylosaurus, which moved, blinked and swung its mighty club-like tail back and forth. </p>

<p>A gyrosphere (a globe ride for touring Jurassic World in the movie) caused even more excitement and the boys asked to pose in it for pictures. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tell-me-more-about-that-laboratory">TELL ME MORE ABOUT THAT LABORATORY</h2>



<p>We had to queue for around ten minutes to get inside, but it was worth the unexpected wait. A white room housing all kinds of fascinating exhibits, the lab highlights include incubating dinosaurs, a glass sphere containing dino poo which you get to handle with a glove and eggs with tiny dino embryo inside. Best of all was the meet-and-greet, where a white-coated lab assistant appeared carrying a baby dinosaur which kids were allowed to touch &#8211; it was make believe but it sure felt real. </p>

<p>In the next room the kids got to play paleontologists, using brushes to find hidden fossils in a sandbox, met another baby dino and then entered a darkened room with a large cage housing a velociraptor named Blue. A ranger told the children all about him as he moved around the cage and snapped at food. </p>

<p>Suddenly the lights dimmed, red lights started flashing and we were told we had to get out &#8211; the dino handler&#8217;s excellent acting and loud alarm made it feel like a real emergency, so much so a tot behind us started crying. Gulp. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-will-i-see-a-t-rex">WILL I SEE A T-REX? </h2>

<p>Yes. As we were rushed from the velociraptor emergency we entered a cavernous, dark space where thunder crashed and lightening flashed. And suddenly above us was an enormous Tyrannosaurus Rex, its mighty mouth wide open and a blasting roar echoing around us. Matching its ferocity on the other side of the room was another king of the dinosaurs, and the boys stood beneath them absolutely transfixed. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-verdict">VERDICT </h2>



<p>A must-do for dinosaur-lovers, Jurassic World fans and anyone who enjoys being transported to another world, at least for an hour or two. More realistic than expected, the animatronics are excellent and the baby dinosaur meet-and-greet is a treat. Both boys rated it 10/10, which says it all. All ages are welcome, but we&#8217;d say it&#8217;s perfect for children aged 4-11 years. </p>
