PizzaExpress, Islington

Renowned for being the home of Dough Balls, enjoy a slice of your favourite pizza at PizzaExpress Islington. What’s more, it’s just had a new glow-up. Wanna see?

Craving comfort food with a side of style? PizzaExpress Islington has just had a swanky revamp – and it’s seriously upped its game. Sitting pretty on Upper Street, one of north London’s buzziest stretches, this spot is surrounded by indie boutiques, and chic cocktail bars (a shopaholics dream). PizzaExpress is our go-to for tasty carbs that cater to just about everyone – from fussy kids to vegans and gluten-free diners.

This newly refurbished branch is no exception. Expect crowd-pleasers galore: classic Margheritas, meaty American Hots, and those iconic Dough Balls. For plant-based pals, the vegan Giardiniera hit all the right notes, and if you’re gluten-free? Fear not – there are options for this too, so there is something for everyone. Plus, their kid-friendly Piccolo menu is a steal – three courses for £8.50, complete with Dough Balls and a Bambinoccino. And they regularly offer Kids Eat Free per adult main during the school hols (T&C’s apply, obvs) – you can nab that offer right now until 10 Aug, but only for kids dining in the restaurant.

Inside, the vibe is modern and mellow – warm pendant lighting, green velvet booths, and leafy Graham & Brown wallpaper bring a chilled, slightly retro charm to the space. With tall windows and two spacious floors, there’s loads of natural light and room to breathe (ideal for group bookings, post-work hangs or wrangling little ones).

In the mood for people-watching? Nab a table on the covered outdoor terrace and soak up the Upper Street buzz – the perfect perch for a relaxed lunch or Aperol-fuelled dinner as the sun sets. If the cupboards are bare, or you can’t be figged to put a face on, they also offer dining for delivery and collection.
