<p>Muddy went to an event (<a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflash-bafta-2025-special-weve-got-the-hot-tea/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BAFTA TV Awards</a> *air kiss*) earlier in the year and needed to get our makeup done professionally before strolling down the red carpet. However it proved tricky, with mobile makeup artists either booked up (some months in advance) or too pricey. So we found an alternative solution: makeup bars that are fast, don&#8217;t cost the earth, bookable online and treat you like the queen you are. Here are our favourite tried-and-tested places for a makeup fix. </p>

<p>The flagship gold and pink store is gorgeous, but head downstairs and you&#8217;ll discover an even more magical makeup world where Hollywood mirrors abound and glasses of bubbly are offered while you wait for your appointment. The Pillow Talk parlour is where Muddy got our BAFTA glow up &#8211;  a 30-minute appointment for £70, which is redeemable against purchases. You can choose from Charlotte Tilbury iconic looks (think Golden Goddess, Uptown Girl, Vintage Vamp) which a makeup artist expertly applies or, if you want to go full-on red carpet, there&#8217;s a bridal and occasion makeup package (£105 for 90 minutes). And if you want a better complexion before the makeup&#8217;s even applied, there&#8217;s a skin bar for express facials too. </p>

<p>Another brilliant place Muddy can recommend to get your glam on before an event. Nars picks up major bonus points for opening on a Sunday (12-6pm) when so many other beauty bars are shut, a handy fact to know when you need to get dolled up at the end of a weekend. We were impressed by the immaculate set up and very helpful makeup artist who listened to our request for the near-impossible (natural yet glamorous) and worked his magic. It cost £50 for 40 minutes, but that was redeemable against a purchase (Muddy invested in a lip stick and eye-liner). </p>

<p>It&#8217;s billed as the city&#8217;s first professional independent beauty bar and the hook is that it gives you access to fashion industry makeup artists at affordable prices. We can confirm your face is in safe hands, with professionals who work for fashion week, ad campaigns, music videos and magazine shoots on the books. It might sound slightly intimidating to those who aren&#8217;t into maquillage, but it&#8217;s actually a really friendly place where you can choose from one of the artists&#8217; more edgy looks or request your own and it really is a bargain: packages include Natural Look (£45 for 40 minutes), Full Event (£65 for 60 minutes), or a makeup tutorial (£80 for 60 minutes). Our only complaint? It <em>very</em> popular, so you need to be organised pre-event and book early to avoid disappointment. </p>

<p>Shhh! We&#8217;re sharing this but keep it quiet as it&#8217;s our secret spot and we don&#8217;t want it to get booked out. Brixton&#8217;s only independent department store is great to visit regardless of whether you&#8217;re getting your makeup done (think rails of Nobody&#8217;s Child and Day Birger et Mikkelsen to browse), but if you do need your face fixing for a big event or date, book a slot at the Bobbi Brown makeup counter on the ground floor. We found our makeup artist Maria incredibly helpful (and funny), from advice on foundation colour matching to getting rid of dark circles, and the result was dewy skin and sexy eyes. Result. From £55 for 30 minutes, redeemable against Bobbi Brown products (the Vitamin Enriched Face Base is a miracle in a pot). </p>

<p>One of the best makeup sessions Muddy&#8217;s ever experienced, largely because the products are so sublime. Armani&#8217;s foundation&#8217;s the best in the biz in our opinion, and with an expert on hand to colour match and advise on concealer, your skin looks flawless and luminous in just 25 minutes. The 25-minute session is FREE, but if you want to add in eyes, lips, brows and contouring, you&#8217;re going to want the VIP package which is still a bit of a bargain at £75 for 60 minutes. There&#8217;s no hard sell to buy products, but we did end up purchasing Armani Luminous Foundation (£37) because it felt and looked so good. There&#8217;s also bridal makeup for £135. </p>
