You might have heard of Annabel&#8217;s and the Groucho Club, but how about Oswald&#8217;s and George? The capital&#8217;s full of hush hush private clubs that we don&#8217;t get to hear about because the parties and deals are happening behind closed doors. If you&#8217;re looking for a sanctuary in the city, whether you&#8217;re a Londoner or someone who needs a base there, here&#8217;s our list of dream places to join.

A private members&#8217; club focused on diversity, equality and climate action? How refreshing. This forward-thinking club attracts entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, business leaders, activists, civil-society leaders and policymakers and the thing that unites them is creating positive change. Even an activist needs to eat, however, and the roof terrace Italian restaurant serving seasonal, sustainable food is excellent, as are the 100+ yearly events, from Pulitzer Prize-winning author talks to workshops on how to travel ethically. 



Membership: £2000 per year; £1150 if you&#8217;re out of town / off peak; £1450 under 33. 



Best for: Activists and anyone interested in making a difference. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-oswald-s-mayfair"><a href="https://www.oswaldsclub.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OSWALD&#8217;S</a>, Mayfair </h2>



When supermodel Kate Moss and her model daughter Lila were recently snapped leaving a party at Oswald&#8217;s together, it caused a spike in Google searches for the whereabouts of this club. Super exclusive, members include the likes of Rosie Huntington Whitely and the Beckhams and royalty-approved (Prince Willam&#8217;s popped in, Eugene&#8217;s celebrated a wedding anniversary there) it&#8217;s notoriously hard to join and run by Robin Birley of Annabel&#8217;s fame though way more under the radar &#8211; strictly no photography guys. 



Membership: Price available on application (we&#8217;re guessing it&#8217;s not cheap). 



Best for: A-listers and royalty. If your name&#8217;s not down, you&#8217;re definitely not coming in.

Expect wild times at this relaxed, music-loving venue at the back of legendary Koko Theatre (there&#8217;s a secret Door 101 linking the two). With sixteen spaces to hang out in, including a cocktail bar, roof terrace, penthouse, Stage Kitchen, Vinyl rooms and Ellen&#8217;s jazz and blues bar, plus daily events like club nights, supper clubs and wine tastings, the only danger here is that you&#8217;ll never want to go to your actual home. 



Membership: Under 27, £950 per year; Over 35, £2150 per year. 



Best for: Music and party lovers.

This super discreet, opulent club on Mount Street has strict rules about things like mobile phone use and attire (no sunglasses indoors, no distressed jeans and definitely no hot pants). It&#8217;s actually less uptight than it sounds though: London&#8217;s finest sip cocktails until 1am in The Hound Bar, the relaxed restaurant serves delicious Med-inspired cuisine and it&#8217;s dog-friendly &#8211; there&#8217;s a pet dachshund and even a doggy snacks menu.

Best for: Discreet, dog-loving traditionalists.

Set in a five-storey Mayfair townhouse, the first women-only members&#8217; club was a breath of fresh air when it opened back in 2018 and is brilliant for business and, well, everything else too. Not only is it a calm space to work in, hold meetings and get some time to yourself in the city (the two restaurants are excellent), it&#8217;s also fantastic for networking. Founded by former CEO of Hearst Anna Jones and entrepreneur Debbie Wosskow, there&#8217;s always an interesting gathering going on with famous faces like Olivia Wilde and Martha Lane Fox in the mix. 



Membership: £1980 per year. 



Best for: Busy business women and switched-on creatives.

It opened 26 years ago, yet it&#8217;s still one of the most relevant members&#8217; clubs around with a long list of celebrity clientele from Madonna to George Clooney. Muddy dined at the outside restaurant this summer (open to non-members) and had a look around the 18th Century Georgian townhouse&#8217;s labyrinth of ornate rooms, bars, dining spaces, gym, spa and bedrooms, and it&#8217;s very appealing. The crowd it attracts is cool, but not intimidatingly so, and there are some excellent member events like Jazz Wednesdays and Black Book Mondays, when there&#8217;s up to 50% of sommelier selected wines. 



Membership: From £1136 per year for a social membership, £2250 per year full membership. 



Best for: Social butterflies who want to let their hair down without ending up all over social media.

Ground level at The Ned is a cavernous, buzzing space dedicated to bars and restaurants and a central live band, and it&#8217;s open to the public. However upstairs in the grand former bank building is private for members and has a very different vibe, think gorgeous rooftop pool and restaurant, spa, gym, champagne bar and some work and event spaces too. If you join you&#8217;ll also get a discount on bedrooms and all of the downstairs restaurants and bars, access to Ned&#8217;s Clubs world-wide and access to exclusive events, such as New Music Mondays. 



Membership: Price on applications, but expect to pay around £4000 per year. 



Best for: Those who like to work hard and play hard in equal measure.

No list of London members&#8217; clubs would be complete without Soho House, which now has outposts around the world and 10 places to access in the capital alone, including houses in Shoreditch, Balham and Mayfair. The original Soho House in Greek Street is still going strong, and the concept&#8217;s simple &#8211; this is a place for creative types to work, rest and play with like-minded people. Spas, bars, gyms, screening rooms, art collections, great restaurants and lots of events ensure its popularity. There have been complaints that it&#8217;s expanded too quickly making it less exclusive and special, however the opening of Soho Mews House this year is taking it back to the original model &#8211; an intimate club spread over three floors, outside terrace and membership is invite only! 



Membership: Every house member, £2920 per year, Soho Mews House £1200 per year. 



Best for: Globetrotters who want a place to work and relax whenever, wherever.
