<p>Unlike many independent schools steeped in (or sometimes wading through) centuries of tradition, <a href="https://www.wetherbypembridge.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wetherby Pembridge</a> is a brand new, purpose-built co-ed Senior day school tucked behind the rapidly regenerating pocket of Olympia in West London. Building on the existing success of Wetherby Prep (boys) and Pembridge Hall (girls), the doors to this Senior school iteration opened in Sept 2025 for around 100 pupils Years 7-9 (11-13 years) in class sizes of 18-20. The plan is for the school to grow organically with each cohort, with today’s pioneering Year 9 eventually becoming the school’s first ever Year 13, and full school numbers to hit 500 pupils. &nbsp;</p>



<p>The school is part of the Inspired Group which runs 125 schools&nbsp;in more than 30 countries&nbsp;with 12 based in London . Deep pockets then, and no expense spared here with a multi-million pound investment. From the outside you might mistake the school for a boutique hotel or glossy corporate HQ, and inside it’s equally impressive – wide, light-filled corridors, sleek spaces, facilities to awe prospective pupils and parents (I mean, doesn’t every school have a dojo?) &nbsp;and that unmistakable new school freshness. &nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-general">GENERAL</h3>



<p>Prepare to be dazzled. The layout feels closer to a contemporary workspace than a traditional Senior school, with clever breakout areas, stylish design touches and individual toilets on every floor. The central library is the heart of the school, visible on all eight floors via a glass atrium rising through every level but the dining area is pretty impressive too with its lovely outdoor space. Add futuristic science labs with arching windows and bright classrooms and there’s a lot to like here.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-sport">SPORT </h3>

<p>Outdoor space on site is limited but the 15-acre Wood Lane sports grounds provide grass pitches, floodlit Astro, tennis courts and a smart pavilion. Sport runs year-round here whatever the weather. Within the school, the entire eighth floor is a state-of-the-art gym with incredible skyline views, fitness zones, tailored equipment and a dedicated dojo for fans of martial arts.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Pupils take part in four hours of sport each week across Games and PE. Football, hockey, netball, cricket, swimming, rowing and athletics are all on offer. The Head, Nick Page, is keen for the school to excel in sports and early wins suggest Wetherby Pembridge is already building a strong sporting identity.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-creative-arts">CREATIVE ARTS</h3>

<p>Creative Arts has its own dedicated floor with a dance studio, drama studio, music classrooms and music tech suites. Years 7 to 9 study Art, Drama and Music before specialising for GCSEs and A Levels. Pupils are encouraged to take up extra-curricular music, with around 35% learning an individual instrument – a little low right now but as the children settle in, I’d expect that number to rise. The Art studio is light and well equipped, with a photography room, pottery wheel and kiln but the showstopper is the theatre with retractable seating that consumes the entire lower ground floor. Walk in and it feels more West End venue than school drama space. The adjoining atrium can be closed off from the rest of the school and a café will soon open here for parents and the wider community to enjoy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-academics">ACADEMICS</h2>

<p>Brainiacs, rejoice. Wetherby Pembridge is unapologetically academic in its approach, with Nick Page recruited&nbsp;every teacher at Head-of-Department level, an ambitious move that reflects the school’s commitment to excellence. The entrance process is typical of London schools, and includes an online assessment in reasoning, problem solving and English, followed by written papers, a school report and an interview, though pupils from Inspired Group schools typically have a through route from prep to senior.</p>



<p>Technology is used alongside traditional methods here, with smartboards, whiteboard walls, surface devices and handwriting all coexisting. A partnership with the Metaverse allows teachers to create immersive learning environments, from exploring Ancient Rome to stepping inside virtual ecosystems, and the science labs are brimming with shiny, cutting-edge equipment. <p>GSCEs and A Levels will be taught here, across the traditional subject options of Maths, English, Science, Ancient and Modern Languages (French, Spanish, German and Latin initially), Humanities and the Creative and Performing Arts.&nbsp;On top of all this, the super curriculum encourages pupils to go beyond the syllabus with Olympiads, lectures, societies, STEAM challenges, AI and VR labs.&nbsp; The proof of the pudding will be the first GSCE results in 2028 so watch this space!</p>



<p>Beyond the classroom, pupils take part in at least three clubs each week, from sports or dance to Chess, Choir, Gym Club, Book Club or Cryptic Crosswords.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kindness, respect, resilience and ambition are central to the school’s culture. The head has modelled the pastoral system on leading boarding schools and has created a house system that spans year groups and gives each pupil a smaller community within the school.</p>



<p>Every child has a Housemaster or Housemistress who will look after their pupils right through the school, and a daily Personal Tutor for added support. There’s also an onsite school counsellor, PHSE on the curriculum as well as extra-curricular options including yoga.</p>

<p>Former Deputy Head at Harrow and Westminster schools, and founding head of Harrow International School New York, Nick Page is personable, polished and quietly confident, much like the school itself. This project feels very much like his dream gig, and he’s extremely visible throughout the school, greeting pupils each morning, chatting with them after school and still teaching French and Spanish each week to remain connected to classroom life. &nbsp;Creating a high-quality co-ed day school in the middle of London demands strong academic results but he’s also keen to create a moral framework for that success – the values for the school, along with ambition, are kindness, respect and resilience.</p>

<p>There’s a Head of Learning Support and Inclusion here who also teaches English at the school. &nbsp;Interestingly the SENDCo’s remit is to go beyond one-to-one teaching to make sure all staff are equipped to make their teaching as accessible as possible within the classroom.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-quirks">QUIRKS</h2>



<p>Slamdunk! The theatre’s retractable seating can also be used for basketball, with hoops that come down from the ceiling. Also, lessons in the Metaverse are pretty unusual.</p>

<p>A fairly short day compared to some. Students can arrive from 8am. Lessons finish at 3.55pm with after school clubs running until 4.55pm.</p>

<p>Mobiles are locked in Yondr pouches on arrival and released at home time.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-transport">TRANSPORT</h2>



<p>Limber up for a walk, bus or tube trip. The school is seconds from Olympia Overground with Baron’s Court, Hammersmith and South Kensington also nearby. Car drop-off is actively discouraged.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-fees">FEES</h2>



<p>Spenny. Fees sit at around £11,000 per term which places the school at the higher end of London day schools. Lunch, most clubs and day trips are included, with specialist and off-site activities occasionally incurring additional charges. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-word-on-the-ground">WORD ON THE GROUND </h2>



<p>Like a Hollywood ingénue making a jaw-dropping entrance, Wetherby Pembridge has the competition rubber necking, and parents and locals raving about its modern ethos and impressive facilities. There’s a lot of love for the idea of an academic co-ed Senior school in this up-and-coming part of the city.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Smart, ambitious kids who want to keep it local. Parents who value modern facilities and a global outlook.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> The school won’t be full until 2030 so might not be ideal if your child needs school life supersized. The academic pace is fast here so it’s not the place for coasting pupils.</p>
