<p>After months of teasing us <a href="https://thenewman.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Newman</a>, London&#8217;s hottest new five-star, finally opened its doors on 1 Feb and it&#8217;s looking fitter than Timothée Chalemet on a red carpet. </p>



<p>Muddy was invited to a pre-launch look around and we can confirm it definitely lives up to the hype. Over drinks and canapés on the terrace of the Penthouse Suite (which has an ice bath and <a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/lifestyle/wellbeing/best-saunas/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sauna</a>, London&#8217;s hot trend) we met Paul Brackley, founder and CEO of hospitality brand Kinsfolk &amp; Co &#8211; The Newman is the company&#8217;s first foray into hotels. </p>

<p>Paul told us he&#8217;s passionate about Fitzrovia, revealing his parents and grandparents were married at All Saints Margaret Street Church, while his two sisters studied at the former Middlesex Hospital nearby. And his ambitions aren&#8217;t stopping at a hotel, with further plans for a destination restaurant on Charlotte Street this year, a café with apartments above linked to The Newman, plus a café on Rathbone Place. Talk about a busy schedule. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-so-what-s-the-hotel-like">So what&#8217;s the hotel like? </h2>

<p>The gorgeous interiors are by design studio Lind + Almond and the brief was to give the hotel a sense of place, which its achieved beautifully by referencing local architecture and characters, for example all 81 bedrooms and suites have bespoke beds with details inspired by the bangles worn by Nancy Cunard, a prominent party figure in Fitzrovia&#8217;s boho past, while black and white shower tiles are a nod to the eye-catching exterior tiles of nearby Langham Court Hotel. </p>



<p>We love the sexy Art Deco-meets-Scandi style, which we&#8217;re renaming ArtScan, and the warm and earthy tones throughout mixed with dark wood and marble. </p>

<p>Best room to book? The vast sixth floor, two-bedroom Penthouse is bound to be a magnet for visiting celebrities thanks to all the OMG extras including a dressing room, LED face mask and private terrace with a barbecue, sauna, ice bath and city views of the iconic Telecom Tower. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tell-me-about-the-food-amp-drink">Tell me about the food &amp; drink </h2>



<p>Nancy Cunard would have have partied hard in the basement Gambit Bar, which is a total vibe: marble flooring scattered with masonic motifs, shimmering chandelier, stage and a separate entrance to the bar for residents. Upstairs, you can dine at Angelica, a large, buzzy European bistro where prices are lower than expected (£19-£30 for a main), and you can pop in for a bite all day (7am-10pm), from an eggs Florentine brunch to a confit duck leg, haricot beans, parsley salad for dinner. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-and-what-about-wellbeing">And what about wellbeing? </h2>



<p>There&#8217;s an entire floor dedicated to wellness, including four treatment rooms, ice room, rose quartz room, sensory shower and plunge pool. For fitness we saw a well-equipped gym and separate studio for yoga, pilates and meditation classes (available to local residents as well as hotel guests). </p>



<p>Beauty-wise the hotel&#8217;s partnered with Scandinavian clean beauty brand Nuori (it&#8217;s their first foray into the London hotel scene apparently), Moss of the Isles and science-led CBD brand Kloris. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-verdict">Verdict: </h2>



<p>A penthouse suite with private terrace + entire floor dedicated to wellness + glam basement bar + buzzy bistro = instant hit. </p>
