The big news out East is the opening of Virgin Hotel&#8217;s first London outpost. Taking over the former Mondrian hotel, which closed its doors in the summer (rumour says it will reopen in Central London soon), <a href="https://virginhotels.com/london-shoreditch/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Virgin Hotel London-Shoreditch</a> on Curtain Road is looking mighty fine. The five-star, which offers tapas in the basement, cocktails and a swimming pool on the roof and some very luxurious rooms in between, has collaborated with Blue Marlin Ibiza so Muddy predicts some epic parties on the roof terrace next summer.

Wrap up warm and head to Soho on 7 Nov for the launch of <a href="https://www.carnaby.co.uk/news-and-events/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Carnaby Street&#8217;s</a> Christmas installation. This year’s display Into The Light, which is created by London-based design studio Sculptivate and runs on green energy, promises to be a stunner. Expect hourly light displays from six-metre sculptures illuminating the legendary street, and don&#8217;t forget to pop into Kingly Court (a Muddy favourite for shopping and dining just off Carnaby Street), where you&#8217;ll find cascading curtains of lights hanging from balconies.

<a href="https://www.nhm.ac.uk/events/dino-snores-for-kids.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dino Snores at the Natural History Museum</a> is back, so if you’ve always wanted to recreate A Night At the Museum for real, now’s your chance. Dates for kids (aged 7-11, but must be accompanied by an adult, lucky you!), are 15 Nov and 21 Dec, which includes a sleepover, exploring the museum by torchlight, a dinosaur T-shirt workshop and breakfast the following morning. You can book now if you’re a member, but tickets for the general public go on sale at midday on 21 Oct. Grown up but don&#8217;t want to miss out on all the late night museum action? Tickets for the Natural History Museum&#8217;s legendary <a href="https://www.nhm.ac.uk/events/new-years-eve.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Year’s Eve party</a> have just been put on sale (£125), so if you want to party beneath a dinosaur on 31 Dec (which Muddy does) better get booking.

We’re hearing good things about <a href="https://fondalondon.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fonda</a> which has just opened in Heddon Street (off Regent Street). Serving contemporary Mexican dishes made from British produce in a chilled setting (the pink sloth hanging above the stairs sets the tone), it’s very zeitgeist. Order the quesadillas with oaxaca cheese, Wiltshire black truffle, salsa verde&nbsp; and crème fraîche and a Fonda margarita cocktail and relax.

New café bar <a href="https://www.pauseatuncommon.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pause</a> in Holborn is serving up more than a decent coffee and avo on toast. As part of its opening celebrations it’s launched a Speaker Series to showcase female chefs and their recipes. This month Great British Bake-Off alumni Manon Lagrève will be talking about her French heritage, baking style and new book Chez Manon: Simple Recipes From A French Home Kitchen on 24 Oct (6.30pm, tickets £15). While food writer, stylist and pasta expert Rosie Mackean will be sharing stories on 21 Nov. Chef&#8217;s kiss.
