First up, it&#8217;s the fascinating and little-known life of Yoko Ono. YOKO ONO: MUSIC OF THE MIND is the UK’s largest exhibition celebrating Ono&#8217;s influential, multidisciplinary career in conceptual art, performance, music, and activism for peace. Spanning over seven decades, the exhibition highlights key works from the 1950s to the present, including iconic works like Cut Piece (1964) and Film No.4 (Bottoms) (1966-67), which challenge traditional boundaries in art and call for peace. You&#8217;ll be invited to engage with over 200 works, including interactive installations like Wish Trees for London, showcasing Ono&#8217;s innovative approach to art, language, and participation. She&#8217;s an inspiration and an enigma, and this exhibition is a must-see.

This exhibition showcases around 60 vintage photographs by acclaimed British photographer Roger Mayne (1929–2014), known for his evocative images of young people in &#8217;50s and &#8217;60s Britain. Alongside his iconic street photography, the exhibition features rarely seen, intimate images of his family life in Dorset and photos from his 1962 honeymoon in Spain. Mayne, a self-taught photographer, was instrumental in the recognition of photography as an art form, focusing on capturing authentic human life, and his pictures truly do paint a thousand words.

Suspended States is Yinka Shonibare CBE&#8217;s first solo exhibition in London in over 20 years, and it explores the suspension of psychological, physical, and geographical boundaries in the modern world. Shonibare uses Western art history and literature to examine power structures, the ecological impact of colonialism, and the legacy of imperialism on conflict and peace. The War Library (2024) is a particularly spectacular piece, comprising 5,000 books on conflicts &#8211; the feeling of walking through the annals of humanity&#8217;s lowest moments isn&#8217;t half powerful.

This exhibition is Judy Chicago&#8217;s largest solo presentation in a London gallery, highlighting her six-decade career centred on challenging the male-dominated art world. Chicago’s work addresses themes such as birth, masculinity, Jewish identity, power and climate justice, and the exhibition features archival and unseen works, early abstractions, video installations, and studies for major projects. It&#8217;s a multidisciplinary must-see for art-lovers of all varieties.

And now for something of a sensory odyssey. Tavares Strachan: There Is Light Somewhere is a vibrant, immersive exhibition featuring installations, sculptures, neon works, and live performances that celebrate hidden figures and overlooked pioneers. It includes tributes to artists like Nina Simone, his Encyclopedia of Invisibility exploring representation and belonging, and features a 14-meter-long Black Star Liner ship floating on the Hayward Gallery roof! This young artist is on the pulse and his works are all about the here-and-now &#8211; needless to say, he&#8217;s one of the trendiest guys on the scene today.

This is one for the interior decor buffs. This major retrospective collection celebrates the life and work of Enzo Mari, one of the most influential Italian designers and artists of the 20th century. Originally produced by Triennale Milano in 2020, the exhibition features hundreds of his projects, from furniture and children&#8217;s books to graphic design and conceptual installations. He was ahead of the curve in discussing the social responsibility of design, a belief that resonates today amid urgent ecological and ethical challenges, and his lasting legacy is displayed through tributes by fellow designers which form part of the exhibition.

During the Blitz of 1940–1941, Henry Moore was moved by the scenes of Londoners seeking refuge in Underground stations, inspiring his haunting Shelter Drawings. These sketches, which focused on both the human and spatial drama of the shelters, became the foundation for his post-war drawings and sculptures. Shadows on the Wall explores Moore’s fascination with confined spaces, curved walls, and brick structures &#8211; perhaps not one for the claustrophobic, but compelling all the same. Tim Hetherington was a photojournalist who worked in some of the most dangerous places in the world. His focus on war took him to Liberia, Afghanistan and Libya in his quest to present a richer and more intimate perspective on conflict and led him to his tragic death in North Africa 13 years ago. This exhibition celebrates his incredible life spent living alongside soldiers, and his works which document real life experiences in war-torn territories. The exhibition displays not just photos but diaries, his personal cameras and his short films.
