<p>The sun&#8217;s out, London&#8217;s in bloom and naturally our thoughts are turning to gardening, or at the very least filling some tubs with herbs and flowers. If you want to make the most of your outdoor (or indoor) plant space this summer, here are six of the best garden centres for all your flora and fauna needs (and some have great cafés too).</p>

<p>There are garden centres, and then there is the award-winning Sunshine Garden Centre, a three-acre oasis in the heart of North London. It&#8217;s not just that its stock is splendid, from hanging baskets to olive trees, but it&#8217;s all the amazing extras, from the massive FREE car park (with a carry to car service if you&#8217;ve hit the credit card a little too hard) to Blade Sharpening dates, when you give your blunt gardening equipment a new edge. We also love the informative gardening talks, community events at the BBQ Roof Garden and there&#8217;s even a Sunshine members club &#8211; think Soho House for the green-fingered. </p>

<p>What a stunner. One of London&#8217;s best-looking and oldest (it opened in 1851!) garden centres (sorry, nurseries) is sheer joy to wander around. Whether you&#8217;re popping in to pick up some plants or want your entire garden redesigned and landscaped, it&#8217;s the pick of the bunch for all your gardening needs. Not forgetting the fabulous café in a glasshouse which is filled with hanging plants, has an outside terrace and darling little terracotta pots on the tables. </p>

<p>Looking for green goods in South London? Head to family-owned, design-led The Nunhead Gardener, which includes a flagship nursery in Nunhead, lush spaces in Camberwell and Elephant Park, plus a botanical boutique inside Mercato Metropolitano Mayfair. At Nunhead they&#8217;re big on house plants as well as stuff for outside, so if you&#8217;re looking to liven up your living areas, head here. It&#8217;s also a one-stop shop for bouquets (there&#8217;s a florist onsite), edibles, garden furniture and gorgeous homeware. The only problem? It&#8217;s all so tempting. </p>

<p>Whether you want climbers, citrus trees, outdoor pots or perennials, this  London paradise delivers. It&#8217;s been running since 1981, when founder and keen North London gardener Beryl Henderson had the bright idea of transforming a derelict button factory into a lush urban plant centre, the kind of place that&#8217;s life-enhancing to wander around. Sadly, Beryl passed away last year, however her memory lives on in the tranquil store where knowledgable staff advise on everything from what to plant when through to garden essentials. </p>

It’s all three, baby, which makes Petersham the OG of London garden centres and a great day out in Muddy’s opinion. Pick up some petunias from The Potting Bench, get spenny with gardening accessories in the shop, attend a summer flower arranging workshop and then treat yourself to a slap up supper in the Green Michelin-star restaurant. </p>
