August might not seem an obvious time to open a restaurant in the capital, what with so many&nbsp;Londoners jetting off on hols, but there are a surprising amount of new openings to get excited about this month. 



Kicking off with <a href="https://64goodgestreet.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">64 Goodge Street</a>, a gorgeous new Bloomsbury-based bistro on, you&#8217;ve guessed it clever clogs, Goodge Street. Launched earlier this month by the team behind Portland and Clipstone, its menu is pretty much perfection if you&#8217;re into classic French dishes served by candle-light (which Muddy very much is). Spotlight on the £45 prix fixe lunch menu &#8211; think sardines, fennel and lemon followed by saucisse de canard and lentil vinaigrette and ending with lemon pot de crème. Chef&#8217;s kiss. 



The recent closure of top chef Jason Atherton&#8217;s Pollen Street Social in Mayfair was a shock on the food scene, but he shook things up again by quickly announcing the opening of new restaurant <a href="https://www.maryslondon.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mary&#8217;s</a> in its place. Opening this Thursday (15 Aug), forget the high end haute cuisine of his former eaterie as his new place will be more down to earth and affordable, with a chef&#8217;s burger counter, Blind Pig Bar and menu filled with choice grill options, like sirloin steak and pork t-bone.

From France to South America, with the opening of fancy <a href="https://fazenda.co.uk/location/bishopsgate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fazenda</a> in Bishopsgate, where dishes and flavours are inspired by Argentina and Brazil. Expect a mouth-watering meaty menu filled with tasty bites like Wagyu beef, egg, onion and peppers empanadas, beef sirloin and pork belly. Vegetarian? The beetroot tortelloni, orange and feta cheese will do nicely.

Any place that describes itself as &#8216;London&#8217;s first Italian dining bakery&#8217; is going to get Muddy&#8217;s attention. Straight outta Milan and opened by the Aqua Restaurant Group, <a href="https://lucirestaurant.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Luci</a> in Covent Garden is a new restaurant we&#8217;ll be seeking out when we&#8217;re craving a carb hit. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there&#8217;s freshly baked bread, slices of handmade wood-fired pizza, slow-cooked bolognese ragù, pasta pockets filled with seasonal ingredients, Milanese cakes and homemade gelato, which you can scoff at the 18-metre long marble ‘bancone’ counter #CarbComa.

Another week, another brilliant brunch spot opens, this time in the form of <a href="https://thetablecafe.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Table Battersea Rise.</a> Served from 9am-4pm, get your chops around buddha bowls, smoked ham hock and chorizo hash or vegan pumpkin pancakes served in light-filled spaces, including an al fresco terrace.

Date for you diary: <a href="https://www.hrp.org.uk/hampton-court-palace/whats-on/hampton-court-palace-food-festival/#gs.d0269d" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hampton Court Palace Food Festival </a>(24-26 Aug, tickets £27.20) which is bringing the hot sauce to your August Bank Holiday weekend. With more than 150 speciality food stalls to browse and sample, pop-up bars, kids&#8217; activities, live music and free access to Henry VIII&#8217;s former gaff, it&#8217;s a no-brainer.

Things will be hotting up over in east London at the end of the month when three-day foodie festival <a href="https://www.meatopia.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Meatopia</a> (29 Aug &#8211; 1 Sept) takes over the Tobacco Dock, Shadwell. With 70+ chefs cooking up a storm over charcoal and wood, plus live music and pop up bars, it&#8217;s a tasty way to see in Autumn.

Chef Najee will guide you through six mouth-watering dishes, including born badanjan (fried aubergine with dried yogurt) and korma bameih (okra and tomato stew), along with sharing stories about his food and culture.
